Miami Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery is often used for correcting sagging eyelids, removing fatty pouches from the bottom and upper eye area, and removing any excess skin from the upper eyelids. Once this is complete, the now taught skin will have fewer wrinkles, less sagging and make you look younger and energetic.
When you make your free, initial consultation with a cosmetic surgeon for an evaluation, you will find out how a blepharoplasty or eyelid procedure can help you. The surgeon will go over the procedure, explain the various options and what you can expect after surgery. Your doctor will also make sure you understand what you can realistically expect.
During you consultation and evaluation at BOD, your cosmetic surgeon will also explain the limitations of eyelid surgery. For example, if your eyes have a lateral droop, an eyelid lift will not correct it. Laterally drooping eyes are typically the result of your forehead sagging. The surgeon may suggest you schedule a separate procedure called a brow lift.
Before your consultation is over, the cosmetic surgeon will evaluate your eyes, bone structure, and discuss your health with you. This will help him make suggestions about the most appropriate procedure for your eyes. Your surgeon will ensure that all of your questions are answered before you leave. His main goal is to make you comfortable with his expertise and provide you with the knowledge to make the best decision for your particular situation.
The Eyelid Lift Procedure
Like most cosmetic surgeries, an eyelid lift is an outpatient procedure that is performed under intravenous sedation or a local anesthesia. Unless there are complications, your cosmetic surgeon will release you to go home once you are fully awake.
There are various techniques that your doctor can implement to perform your eyelift. The most common involves creating an incision in the upper eyelid. The incision is in the fold of the eye that occurs when you have your eyes open. This placement of the incision prevents the scar from being visible. The incision can be made with a traditional scalpel or laser.
Once the incision is made, fat will be removed from the two fat pockets and excess skin will be trimmed. After your upper eyelid is complete, your surgeon will make an incision in the lower eyelid and remove fat from three fat pockets, as well as any excess skin. After sutures are in place, ice packs will be applied to your eyes, and you will be taken to recovery. The entire procedure will take about one to two hours.
Post Eyelid Lift Surgery
After your eyelid surgery, you are free to go home. You may experience some swelling and bruising; however, this will go away in one or two days. You may not see much change until your eyes fully heal and the sutures are removed or dissolve on their own, depending on which type were used.
