Mommy Makeover in Miami
It’s undeniable: being a mother is a magical experience. That being said, pregnancy certainly takes its toll on the body — especially the abdominal area and the breasts. If you feel uncomfortable with the changes in your body after pregnancy and nursing, you may decide to have mommy makeover, which is a combination of plastic surgery procedures designed to restore your pre-baby physique. The team at BOD Cosmetic Surgery & Spa has proudly watched many of our mommy makeover patients experience a dramatic increase in self-confidence after cosmetic enhancement.
What Mommy Makeover Entails
Mommy makeover is not a single procedure, but rather a combination of procedures selected to meet your personal breast enhancement and body contouring needs. Depending on your concerns about your physique, your mommy makeover treatment plan could include a combination of the following procedures:
For example, if your breasts have lost volume after nursing and now look saggy, and your abdomen has developed a little “pregnancy pooch” of loose skin and excess fat, our surgeons will combine breast augmentation and lift with tummy tuck surgery. These procedures will restore a pleasing shape to the breasts, elevate them to a more youthful position and sculpt your abdomen to look flatter and firmer.
Candidates for Mommy Makeover
Only an experienced plastic surgeon can decide whether you are a good candidate for mommy makeover surgery in Miami, based on a physical examination, review of your medical history and discussion of your surgical objectives.
Nonetheless, appropriate candidates for mommy makeover are mothers who:
The BOD surgeons will discuss your candidacy for mommy makeover during a pre-operative consultation. They will go over your medical and health history and ask you about your goals and what you expect from mommy makeover surgery. You will have the opportunity to identify what you don’t like about your figure, and to describe your ideal cosmetic outcome.
After it has been determined that you are a good candidate for surgery, our surgeons will recommend the combination of procedures they think will provide the best results. Then, you can schedule your surgery and discuss logistical details with our patient coordinator.
Mommy makeover is typically performed on an outpatient basis at a local surgery center or in our office. You will receive anesthesia medications and won’t feel anything during surgery.
Mommy makeover procedures may be performed simultaneously, or separated out into different stages, allowing you to recover in between each surgery. Each approach has its pros and cons, which will all be discussed with you during your consultation.
To begin tummy tuck, the surgeon will make a horizontal incision right above the pubic area, extending from one hipbone to the other. The placement of the incision ensures that it can be hidden by a bathing suit or pair of underwear. Through the incision, the surgeon will remove excess fat, using liposuction techniques, and trim away excess skin. He will also repair weakened or separated abdominal muscles, stitching them into place. Finally, he will re-drape the abdominal skin more tightly across the stomach and close the incision with sutures before dressing the treated area with bandages.
If the mommy makeover treatment plan includes breast lift, the BOD surgeon will begin by making an incision around the outside of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), extending vertically down to the crease of the breast. Through the incision, he will reshape the breast tissue to form a mound higher on the chest, also relocating the nipple, and remove excess skin. If the treatment plan includes breast augmentation, he will place saline or silicone implants to add shape and fullness to the breasts. Finally, he closes the incisions with sutures and places bandages and a support bra.
We will provide comprehensive recovery instructions before you leave the surgery center. We are always available via phone or email to answer your questions.
You may have bruising, swelling and soreness after your mommy makeover, but these side effects will gradually disappear. Our doctors will prescribe pain medication in case you experience discomfort at any point of your recovery.
In the beginning stages of your recovery, you will need to take it easy and avoid any strenuous activity, including bending and lifting (even your children). It’s important to make arrangements ahead of time for someone to help you with childcare and chores. It will take several weeks to a month for you to feel good enough to return to work and your normal routine. Our doctors will schedule several post-operative visits to check your healing progress, remove stitches and advise when it is safe to exercise and go back to work.
