Tummy Tuck Surgery in Miami
Losing weight in the abdominal area is only half the battle of achieving a toned tummy. Unfortunately, there isn’t any way to diet or exercise excess skin off — it must be surgically removed. Tummy tuck (also known as abdominoplasty) does both: removes excess fat and skin for a flatter and firmer abdominal profile. For the best results, a trustworthy and experienced Miami plastic surgeon — such as the team of doctors at BOD — should perform the surgery. Less experienced practitioners do not have the refined technique that successful tummy tuck surgery requires.
What Tummy Tuck Can Accomplish
Standard tummy tuck surgery in Miami has several objectives: remove excess abdominal fat, remove excess abdominal skin/tighten the remaining skin and, lastly, repair separated abdominal muscles.
Standard tummy tuck addresses the middle and lower abdomen. It may require relocating the belly button to a higher position on the abdomen.
Mini tummy tuck is a variation of standard tummy tuck that our doctors recommend to patients whose excess skin and fat is limited to the lower abdomen (below the navel). Mini tummy tuck does not involve relocating the belly button or repairing the abdominal muscles.
Tummy Tuck Candidates
The BOD doctors can confirm whether you are a suitable candidate after reviewing your medical history, performing a physical examination and discussing your aesthetic objectives.
In general, tummy tuck candidates are individuals who:
If you’re interested in tummy tuck, we recommend scheduling a consultation with the BOD surgeons to discuss the procedure and verify your candidacy. Our surgeons will examine your abdomen and skin tone, and inquire about your medical and health history. They will also ask you about your ideal cosmetic outcome and your expectations of the surgery. Once they’ve determined that tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck is a good fit for your needs, you can schedule your procedure with our patient coordinator and discuss the logistical details of the surgery.
Tummy tuck is performed on an outpatient basis at a surgery center or, sometimes, in our office. You will be able to return home the day of your procedure. Before surgery, you will receive anesthesia to prevent you from feeling anything during the procedure.
To begin, the surgeon makes an incision just above the pubic line, extending horizontally from hip to hip. The size of the incision may vary, based on how much skin needs to be removed. Through the incision, the surgeon will repair the abdominal muscles and stitch them into place. He will remove excess fat using liposuction techniques and excise excess skin. He will re-drape the remaining abdominal skin more tightly over the stomach and suture the incisions closed. Finally, he will place an abdominal binder, which helps the tissues conform to their new contours and heal.
We will provide comprehensive recovery instructions before you leave the surgery center or office. Our team is always available via phone or email to answer any questions.
You will need to wear your abdominal binder continuously for several weeks, until the BOD doctors advise you to remove it.
For the first few days of your recovery, you should get plenty of rest and avoid any strenuous movements. You’ll need to avoid exercising, bending or lifting until you’ve been cleared (gentle walking is OK). If you have any discomfort, our doctors will prescribe oral pain medication.
Our team will schedule several post-operative appointments to check your progress, examine your healing incision and answer any questions you may have about your recovery.
In general, tummy tuck patients return to work after about two weeks.
